‘The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run’ Pulled From Oscar Race by Paramount David Derks February 12, 2021 Paramount and Nickelodeon’s animated feature “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” has been withdrawn from Oscar consideration. As of now, there are still 27 films that are still in the running for a coveted spot of a nomination for Best Animated Film of 2020. The Academy notified members this past week who have signed up to participate in the category. “Dear Animated Feature Voting Committee Member,We hope you have been enjoying the submitted Animated Feature films. We wanted you to be aware of some submission updates:The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run has elected to withdraw from consideration and will no longer be available to view on Academy Screening Room.” The original release date for “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” was February 9, 2019. It was then pushed back to August 2, 2019, and then delayed for almost a year to July 31, 2020. It was then moved four more times: to July 17, 2020, May 22, 2020, July 31, 2020, and finally August 7, 2020. Paramount recently announced that the film would be released on March 4, 202 on the streaming service Paramount+.
